Micron Pens: A Watercolor Artist's Favorite Tool, Pen & Ink

In this video, my wife, Jodette and I take a trip to Binder's Art Supply, an Atlanta institution. We explore the world of Micron pens, diving into why these archival inks is a favorite for artists like us.

What Makes Microns Special?

A few highlights and key features that make Microns stand out:

  • Archival quality: The ink won't fade over time, ensuring your artwork lasts.

  • Waterproof: Perfect for layering over watercolor and preventing smudging.

  • Variety of sizes: From ultra-fine to bold lines, there's a Micron size for every artistic need.

Go-To Size: The Number Five

Our favorite size is the Micron 05, which provides both fine detail and enough line weight for impactful strokes. She finds it ideal for drawing over watercolors, creating beautiful, layered effects.

Beyond Black: Exploring Color Options

While black is a classic choice, the Microns come in a range of colors, making them versatile for adding accents or creating monochromatic artwork.

Micron Pens for All Levels

We often use the Microns with our students because they are durable and easy to use even for beginners. The smaller sizes particularly are helpful for kids who might be less gentle with their tools.

Ideal for Travel and Outdoor Sketching

The waterproof nature of Microns makes them perfect for on-the-go sketching. They won't smudge in your bag or leak during travel, allowing you to capture those fleeting moments wherever inspiration strikes.
