The Art of Organization: Studio and Travel Essentials

As an artist and educator for over 40 years, I believe it's important to stay organized in both the studio and on-the-go. Probably easier said than done, but that doesn't mean we can't try to be better organized as artists.

Let's take a closer look at how to organize studio supplies and travel kits and talk about some valuable tips and tricks for artists and educators alike.

Organization of Art Supplies

My studio setup is a well-organized haven for his art supplies. I store essential tools in a designated area, keeping them easily accessible. Naturally. Whether this is a collection includes pencils, charcoal, pastels, and everything in between.

Let's focus on the travel kit for a moment.

Travel Kit Essentials

When traveling to teach art classes or meet with clients, I rely on a smaller travel kit that contains only the essentials. This kit includes graphite pencils, Marie's charcoal sticks, and other materials that he knows will suffice for most situations. The travel kit is designed to be compact and portable, making it easy to take along when needed.

The following are really what we take with us:

This organization system offers several valuable lessons for artists and educators: Invest in a good storage solution for your studio space, but make sure that you have a "Go Bag" style setup for travel and when you want to get out of the studio

The Bottom Line

I strive for a studio and travel kit organization that is a model of efficiency and practicality and for the most part - we do that. Often times we adapt and continue to find ways to make it better. For you, I suggest you invest in good storage solutions and developing a system for managing supplies.

Whether you're an artist or educator, taking the time to organize your supplies can have a big impact on your productivity and creativity.
